Geocaching has the wonderful ability to bring life to all types of places. From the savanna to the city and everywhere in between, cache owners place geocaches to showcase unique places, spaces and stories. This week we travel to Türkiye for a story that combines history, hiking and geocaching into one excursion, ready for our latest Geocaching of the Week. Come with us and watch the Ghost Town Special (GC2X5DG)!
Türkiye and its western neighbor Greece have enjoyed complex national relations for thousands of years. An important chapter in their history for our GOTW occurred in 1923, when the governments of each nation agreed to an “exchange” of populations and relocated hundreds of thousands of people between countries based on their religion. This created the ghost town of Kayaköy, the location of our GOTW.
To begin the search for this unique destination, visitors can travel to the port city of Fethiye. It’s tempting to just enjoy the turquoise waters on the beach! But to find this cache, travelers must head into the hills that surround Fethiye to the south to immerse themselves in this unusual world. A short 20-minute drive offers a glimpse into a chapter of Türkiye’s past.

After arriving in the ghost town of Kataköy, there is undoubtedly an eerie feeling. Nature has begun to reclaim the former urban structures. There is an abandoned church on the mountain, the perfect starting point for today’s adventure. With every step, the sun warms your skin as you ascend towards GZ.

Finally, the climb to the top of the ghost town is almost complete. Sweat forms on your forehead as the air becomes thinner as you ride. Every cobblestone path shows the wear and tear of everyday life from the past. The abandoned church, once just a dot on the hillside, is now a wonderful structure just a few meters away! Activate your geo senses, it’s time to look for the cache!

The cache owner points out that the cache will be located near a tree overlooking Kataköy Village. But which tree could it be? So many candidate sites appear among the chaparral that none quite match the description. Suddenly the edge of the plastic container lifts. There it is!

When you open the container, you see the hundreds of finders who have walked the same paths in search of this find. Signing in the logbook is a satisfying feeling; Paired with the breeze in your hair, the feeling is otherworldly. After replacing the container, you are tempted to return to the abandoned church and take one last look at the water. With this final glimpse of the Mediterranean, you know another mission has come to an end.

PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
