💌 We just got a letter! We just got a letter! We just got a letter! I wonder who it is from?

Welcome to Toronto’s First Post Office and Geocache of the Week (GC7HT4Z)! A small museum located in the heart of Toronto. Here, you can step back in time and even write letters to loved ones with a quill pen and seal the envelope with red wax after signing the notebook.

Built in 1833 by James Scott Howard (then Postmaster of York), the building served as both his post office and residence. All 9,000 residents received letters from the “Duke Street” post office the following year announcing its official founding.

Over the next 140 years, the building underwent a series of transformations, serving a variety of purposes. He was the victim of a fire in 1978; however, reconstruction efforts include updates to return the interior to its original state. In 1981, the building became a National Historic Site of Canada, a testament to its enduring legacy. On its 150th anniversary, it reopened as a functioning museum and post office.

CO yellow.warbler has created specific steps and posted them on the cache page. Follow a paper trail of specific steps to find this Mailbox Hybrid:

1. Look for a plaque containing historical information about this site at the posted coordinates. What type of roof is the next edition?
2. Take the number of letters in this word and walk a few steps west. You should find yourself in front of a set of stairs leading into the building.
3. Right after you enter, on the left wall, look for a place where you might want to throw all your bills and junk mail and burn it; Don’t worry; the fire has long been extinguished, and you can open the small black door and find a hiding place.

With cache in hand, it’s time to test your calligraphy skills! Quills and ink were waiting on a nearby table for all the geocachers to use to sign the logs.

I’ve been observing this cache for some time. After visiting the oddities and curiosities exhibit, we took a detour to this amazing historic post office! It just so happened to be a paper crafts fair, and I was thrilled!… Thank you for this really cool cache in a great location! Stamped lots of postcards too 🙂 weeee happiness” –UnicornPoopy
