2026 cache hiding theme – Official Blog

As we kick off 2026, we invite geocachers to bring their creative energy into the new year. Each hidden geocache creates an adventure and turns every discoverer into an inventor.

Our goal is to inspire geocachers to discover caches and places that showcase the creativity, innovation, and sense of adventure that make geocaching special.

2026 theme:

Hiding in plain sight: city edition 🫣
February 1 – March 31, 2026
A smart, discreet geocache that blends into everyday urban environments.

Walking and nature 🌲🍃
1 May – 30 June 2026
Geocaches are hidden along hiking trails and in natural environments, suitable for all levels of experience. From creaky knees to extremes – we’re looking for everything in between. Whether it’s your favorite nature walk or hiking route, we want to see it all.

gadgets! 🕹️🌊
August 1 – September 30, 2026
An interactive geocache that invites seekers to play or complete something before they can sign the notebook. You may need a code, key, magnet, electronics, or special tool to access the notebook.

Filmmaker- en dierentema 🍿🐸
November 1 – December 31, 2026
Share geocaches inspired by your favorite movies, television series, or animals that encourage you on your adventures.

Here’s how it works:

The theme is open to interpretation, giving you the freedom to explore and design boldly. Make sure you follow geocache placement guidelines. Every three months we will feature a geocache from that quarter’s theme on the Geocaching Blog and social media.

First theme: Hiding in plain sight: city edition 🫣

How to get involved:

• Hide geocaches in visible places or in urban environments between February 1 and March 31, 2026.
• Find geocaches in the open or in urban environments on the same date.
• Share on Instagram and TikTok: Post your photos and videos and tag @geocaching. Use the hashtag #GeoHT26 for a chance to be featured in our Instagram Stories.
