What’s more thrilling than commemorating the “first” of something? The first geocaching event, the first EarthCache, or even the first cache in a country. Today, we celebrate just that!
Get your GPS devices ready because we’re going back to 2001 to honor Geocache of the Week and Spain’s first geocache, Montserrat (GC2D4)!
This geocache is named Montserrat (jagged mountain) after the stunning mountains in Catalonia. This area offers amazing hiking and far-reaching views of the surrounding area making it an epic location to hide a geocache.
Listed at 3.5 Terrain, it requires some climbing and will take two hours or more to reach the final location, so set aside an afternoon for this adventure.
CO, comellas recommend starting this trip from “Can Massana,” where you can easily park your car. To reach the cache container, the geocacher must climb and walk through a narrow rocky path that may require the use of hands and feet. It is important to remember that this trek involves challenging terrain, so it is highly recommended to wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water. The journey is worth it for the fantastic view at the end, as it is one of the best in the area.

After a long journey through different terrains and viewpoints, it’s time to look for the geocache. This historic geocache is a small white plastic container located under a marked rock. CO has left clues about where to look for it on the cache page.
With over 630 logs and 320 Favorite points, add your name to the long list of geocachers around the world who have discovered this historic cache!
