Who doesn’t love a good cache of gadgets?
From hooks to levers and all sorts of tools, gadget caches challenge even the smartest geocacher to solve puzzles and earn smileys.
Simply put, a gadget cache is a geocache with a physical puzzle that the geocacher must solve to access the notebook.
If you’ve ever stumbled across Olivandy’s gadget cache before, you know you’re in for a good time. Their creative designs have earned the father/son duo over 400 Favorite points and local fame in the geocaching community.
Iconic Gadgetcache (GCAFF1X) is no exception. This smart cache takes inspiration from escape room challenges with a geocaching twist!
Before we get too far with this Week’s Geocache, we should warn readers that this blog post may contain spoilers. All information can be found on the cache page and images are provided with permission from the cache owner.
These puzzles are designed to be a challenge but are ultimately simple enough to solve. We want everyone to enjoy the cache and get into the notebook.”—Olivandy

At first glance, this cache looks like a typical birdcage container, sealed with a simple padlock. A quick read of the cache description gives you everything you need to unlock the door. But this is just the beginning…

Once inside, geocachers are treated to an iconic geocache, literally. The seven spinning wheels each display six cache icons: Traditional, MultiCache, Mailbox, Event, Virtual, and Mystery. Clues inside the doors provide clues about the next step, but solving this dizzying geocache is sure to turn heads!

As Olivandy explains, one has to spin the wheel to find the correct “code.”
Each puzzle wheel has a small, strategically placed magnet hidden on the back, and when the wheel is in the correct position on the game board, it will align with the hidden magnetic sensor (an electronic piece called a ‘reed switch’) on the back. back panel. When (and only when) all wheels are in the correct position, the internal electronic circuit is complete and will turn on the Green Button. When the user presses the illuminated green button, the electromagnetic latch will release, and the locked door will open to reveal a notebook holder! ”—Olivandy

Finally, the cache is in place, it’s time to sign the log book, then move on to the next Olivandy cache, the Iconic Gadgetcache – BONUS! (GCAFF20)
Creating new and unique caches is just one small way we can give back to the community for all the hard work they put into this hobby.”—Olivandy
