This year, we’ve highlighted a variety of amazing themed caches as part of our Cache Hiding Themes series. Let’s be honest: when it comes to these geocaches, we’re struggling a bit. Do we display it as a colorful cache, an extra large cache bin, or an extreme T5 cache? The only logical answer is that it should be Geocache of the Week.

This adventure is one you will definitely not forget. Dive in with us in this Week’s Geocache, ⛹ Bällebad ⛹ (GC8D4AR).

Take a look back at this childhood favorite: the ball pit. A sea of colorful plastic that most of us remember well. What is hidden behind this dynamic environment? For some people, the excitement and curiosity of this experience carries over into adulthood, especially if geocaches are involved.

The owner of the cache, Patchwork Thielen, knows this well and decided to combine this nostalgia with the thrill of the hunt by creating the world’s most extreme ball pit.

Divers can start their journey on land between the towns of Sinspelt and Niedergeckler, a rural but relatively cache-dense area. Upon arrival at the edge of the forest, the cacher will not look at the ground, but at the sky.

While the cache page doesn’t provide much detail, prepared cachers will check out the cache page gallery and be equipped with their best climbing gear. As stated on the cache page, this T5 is not recommended for solo finders and should not be searched at night.

To be even more prepared, invite a Kletterbaumer, or experienced tree climber.

Once prepared, the geocacher can begin his climb. The goal? A large plastic bin is perched in a tree, more than 12 m (40 ft) from the ground.

However, don’t let the photos of successful geocachers frolicking in ball pits fool you. The work to obtain these geocaches is painstaking, resulting in every piece of terrain rating 5. Inch by inch, you’ll lift yourself up a towering tree, with the clear goal of a large geocache container before your eyes, encouraging you to keep moving.

Finally, with one final pull, you are on top of the large container and ready to dive into it. Take this moment to look down (hopefully you’re not afraid of heights) and see how far you’ve come.

Now the best part: finding the notebook. Like a hidden treasure, the notebook was tucked away somewhere in the trash. As you dig into the brilliant array of balls, you may feel as if you have been transported back to your childhood. This somehow felt familiar; minus the part where you are 12 meters off the ground, of course…

In a triumphant tug-of-war, the geocache container was dug up and lifted triumphantly, nearly the same color as the hole from which it emerged.

While it may be tricky using climbing gear and plastic balls, it’s time to sign the notebook and leave proof of your accomplishments. After all, not many can say they’ve ever swum in a ball pit this high.

Finally, it’s time to take your photos! Although this step is optional, who can resist a celebratory photo shoot after all this effort?

Your hike may be over, but the story of this adventure will continue for years to come.
